Small tea bowl – Frozen series

This handbuilt kurinuki tea bowl can be used for serving hot drinks, like coffee, tea, but you can use it to serve food, like sauces, a handful of berries, or nuts as well. Some people treat it as a candle holder. Each piece is unique and one of a kind.

It is part of a larger set of pieces, a series I call Frozen. This series was inspired by my travels through Iceland. The unique scenery with its volcanic rocks, glaciers and glacial lakes was covered in snow and ice. I tried to express my melancholic mood at the time by giving this series similar white, blue and earthy colours. The ice of the scenery is expressed by crushed pieces of glass.
